Small Business Gains Efficiency Provisions in Energy Bill

Washington, DC [] On June 21, Senators John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) secured amendments to the CLEAN Energy Act (H.R. 6) that focus on what the government can do to assist small businesses in becoming more energy efficient. Two provisions that relate specifically to renewable energy include one that will allow small businesses conducting energy efficiency or renewable energy research and development to be given priority consideration in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs; the other is to establish loans for small firms to invest in use of renewable sources of energy in their business.
