SAI Plans FOA for Concentrated Solar Power Topics

Golden, Colorado [] The Department of Energy/Golden Field Office plans to issue a Funding Opportunity (FOA) by early May 2007 for Topic Areas in the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Technologies area. Three Topic Areas are currently being considered for inclusion in the planned FOA: (1) trough component manufacturing R&D; (2) thermal storage R&D; and (3) advanced CSP concepts. Approximately $15M in federal funding, over three (3) years (FY07-09) is currently planned for this action. Any single award is not expected to be funded in excess of $2M, and the average size of the advanced concepts awards will be smaller than awards within the other two areas. Awardees in the first two areas will be required to be aligned with at least one system provider, or otherwise have a process for obtaining information relevant to their component/storage concept. Cost sharing of total project costs will be required, at anywhere from 20% to 50%. All federal funding will be required to be spent in the United States. The tentative timeline for this action is FOA Issuance — 04/30/2007; FOA Close — 06/15/2007; Selection — 09/01/2007; Award — beginning in September 2007.
