REPORT: Fossil Fuel Companies Big Political Donors

September 25, 2002 [] A report released recently from the Sierra Club shows that lawmakers received over US$40 million in campaign contributions through August 2002 from industries like oil, gas, coal, nuclear, and the automakers. The oil and gas industry, for instance, contributed over US$13.3 million to members of Congress, and could receive tax breaks worth US$14.8 billion.
