October 11, 2011 – PRNewswire — TEAL Electronics, an SL Industries Inc. (AMEX:SLI) subsidiary, launched the PVobserver string monitoring and wireless communication option for TEAL Configurable Combiner Boxes. The product suits commercial- and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) installations. The PV system operator can use remote string monitoring to immediately detect underperforming strings or maintenance issues.

TEAL PVobserver is an optional embedded unit in the TEALsolar configurable combiner box, installed between PV modules and the grid-tied inverter. PVobserver monitors each PV module string’s current and combined DC bus voltage, communicating the data via standard communications protocols and connections. The TEAL PVobserver is also SunSpec Compliant.

The symbiotic power supply in the PVobserver consumes less than 10W, powered by the DC bus that it is monitoring. No extra wires are needed for the power supply input or the data communication output. In the future, additional wireless communication options will be available, as well as separately fed 120VAC power supply input.

TEAL Electronics develops integrated power management systems for OEM markets. SL Industries, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets power electronics, power motion, power protection, tele-protection and communications equipment and systems. Learn more at www.teal.com.
