CLIFTON, New Jersey, US, 2001-08-02 [SolarAccess.com] A fuel cell development company is opening a new manufacturing and testing facility. H Power Corp. will use the custom 90,000 square foot facility in Monroe, North Carolina, to manufacture stationary, portable and mobile fuel cell products. The company already has facilities in Belleville, New Jersey, and Montreal, Quebec, to develop and commercialize its proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. The units are designed to provide electricity for a range of stationary, portable and mobile applications, including residential cogeneration products for rural, remote homes, and backup power units for mobile applications. “It is gratifying to see that alternative energy solutions to the power problems facing our nation are beginning to be addressed by fuel cell companies such as H Power,” says U.S. energy secretary Spencer Abraham. “This plant represents a commitment to distributed generation of electric power, which can make an important contribution to the comprehensive energy plan described by the Bush administration.”
