mPhase prepping new battery tech for autos, marine apps

mPhase Technologies says it is in the home stretch with a “refined prototype” of a new automotive and marine battery technology, with a plan to reveal the mysterious product sometime in 1Q12.

January 18, 2012 – mPhase Technologies says it has refined a prototype of a new automotive and marine product featuring “advanced battery technology” with a “renowned” European auto maker. The company says it will keep working on refinements to the product, which offers fast recharge times “and a distinguished design” to appeal to OEMs and aftermarket suppliers. Internal performance and safety testing is said to be underway, with a plan to demo the product sometime in 1Q12.

It appears mPhase refers to this presentation from last summer, which describes working with Porsche’s Engineering Group and Design Studio for the mPower Emergency Illuminator, which combines a LED with two battery components. A new product has been in development with the latter targeting auto and marine markets. A second prototype was completed in July 2011, which the company said reduced the size by 20% while increasing functionality (in an unspecified way). The company said earlier this month it has kept mum about this new product “in order to protect our intellectual property while attempting to establish a first to market advantage.”
