Japan Encourages Energy Efficiency

June 14, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry released guidelines recently on ways to make the development of energy-saving technologies more efficient by focusing on demand factors rather than the supply potential. The guidelines are aimed at getting researchers to focus more closely on developing technologies that have greater energy conservation effects than ones they might otherwise pursue due to development feasibility. METI hopes the guidelines will ultimately help reduce energy use in the household, business office, transport and industrial sectors, with one overall goal being to help Japan attain its gas emission-cut target to fight global warming.
