Invensys And Active Power Augment Global Distribution Deal

Two U.S. companies have combined to offer new battery-free uninterrupted power supply systems.

RALEIGH, North Carolina, US, 2001-09-26 [SolarAccess.com} Invensys Powerware Division, a company involved in power system technology, has reached agreement with Active Power Inc., involved in flywheel-based energy storage systems, to expand their relationship to distribute Active Power’s next-generation flywheel product, CleanSource2. An initial shipment is to be used at Visa’s new data centre in Denver, Colorado. Officials claim the CleanSource2 dramatically reduces space requirements, temperature restrictions, battery maintenance and replacement costs, while improving UPS system reliability and operational integrity. They say the system has one million hours of reliable field operation in a variety of customer applications, and has become a recognized and accepted alternative to lead-acid batteries. Powerware will offer the CleanSource battery-free technology with its three phase UPS. It has committed to actively promoting the CleanSource product line and is the only UPS company in the U.S. with access to the flywheel product. Powerware says this gives customers added reliability as a battery-free option or an enhancement to their existing UPS/battery systems.
