IKEA to Offer Home Energy Storage in UK

IKEA is expanding its solar homes partnership with London-based Solarcentury by making energy storage available to its customers in the U.K.

At IKEA, we’re always looking for ways to help customers take positive actions at home for both the environment and their wallets,” Hege Saebjornsen, country sustainability manager, IKEA UK & Ireland, said in a statement today. “We know that our customers want to live more sustainably, and together with Solarcentury we will help them to get more value from their solar panels and do just that. With energy bills already going up 15 percent this year, there’s never been a better time for customers to take back control of their electricity bills and maximize their savings by switching to solar and solar storage.”

Solarcentury said that IKEA will offer the solar battery storage and home solar package starting at £6,925 (US$9,157), and retrofit battery prices will start at about £5,000 (US$6,612).

“Battery storage is set to completely revolutionize the home energy market, with solar home owners now able to maximize the amount of solar-generated electricity that they can store and use in their own homes,” Susannah Wood, head of residential solar at Solarcentury, said. “We believe IKEA and Solarcentury are offering the most competitive package on the market yet.”

IKEA will make the solar plus storage package available immediately online and in stores later this year. The package includes a 3.3-kWh LG Chem battery.
