Colorado, United States — Energy-storage company Ice Energy announced that it has formed a partnership with contract-manufacturer Mercury Corporation of Hammondsport, NY to set up a manufacturing facility in the state. Ice energy manufacturers an energy storage device called Ice Bear that sits atop buildings and creates ice at night that is then used to air condition buildings during the day.
Utilities purchase and install the Ice Bear to offset peak energy draws during the hottest part of the day, when electricity needs are at their highest.
Ice Energy said that the initiative brings important new clean energy manufacturing jobs to upstate New York and delivers on the promise of an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) economic stimulus grant awarded to Ice Energy earlier this year in the form of Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits.
The jobs that will be coming to the region are “family-wage jobs” and include skilled mechanical and electrical assembly workers.
Re-training and re-employment opportunities will be available for local workers in the region.
