Hurricane Katrina Relief Response Center Has Toll-free Number

To help private sector contributions reach those in need following the hurricane, call the Katrina Relief Response Center at 1-888-4USA-DOC.

Hurricane rescue items that are needed include temporary housing, medical supplies, water treatment/sewage equipment, power/generators (includes renewable energy systems), food/refrigeration storage, telecommunications equipment/permanent and mobile, new pumps for New Orleans, gas grills and cooking equipment, transportation solutions — drivers/trucks. Katrina Relief Response Center phone lines are staffed 12/7 (8 am to 8 pm EST, seven days a week). Each call will be answered directly by a volunteer, who will enter company data into both an internal tracking database and the Department of Homeland Security’s National Emergency Response Registry, and who will stay engaged with all parties until the donation has been delivered. “The business community stepped in to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and their generosity has been tremendous,” said Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez. “The Department of Commerce Hurricane Relief Call Center will help match up private sector contributions with those who need those contributions on the ground.”
