Group not sold on FY 2004 budget

February 5, 2003 [] The Alliance to Save Energy’s President David M. Nemtzow responded to the Bush Administration’s unveiling of the FY 2004 budget saying the budget request calls for significant cuts in energy efficiency at a time when the U.S. can least afford it. Nemtzow said with U.S. oil imports steadily increasing and the global climate deteriorating, the U.S. needs both immediate progress and long-term solutions. While research into fuel cell vehicles and low-income weatherization assistance is increased, the DOE energy efficiency budget would be cut by US$35 million from last year’s budget request.
