Green Mountain Energy Hosts Holiday Race for Charity

A supplier of renewable energy electricity has sponsored the first annual run for charity in Fairfield, Connecticut.

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut – December 22, 2000 (RENN) – The “Hope & The Kids” 5K run and walk was held on Saturday and sponsored by Green Mountain Energy Company of Austin, Texas. More than 200 runners and walkers in red hats braved the winter elements to benefit several local charities. Green Mountain Energy paid for all racing costs, allowing the inaugural event to be free to participants. Entrants were asked to bring clothes for the Fairfield Homeless Shelter, a toy for the Fairfield Police Holiday Toy Drive or a $5 donation to Operation Hope, a non-profit organization providing emergency food and shelter combined with comprehensive support and services to those who are hungry, homeless and at risk. “We’re pleased to support the activities of institutions in the communities we are hoping to serve,” says Thomas Rawls, Chief Environmental Officer of Green Mountain Energy. “By sponsoring this run, we are giving families in Connecticut a way to benefit charities this holiday season.” Green Mountain Energy currently provides renewable energy to customers in California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and has applied for a license to supply green power to residents of Connecticut next year.
