First Grid-Tied New Zealand Wind Farm

July 24, 2003[SolarAccess.com]New Zealand’s Meridian Energy has applied for a consent permit for its Te Apiti wind farm project north of the Manawatu Gorge. The proposal is for a 55-turbine wind farm on land in the Saddle Road area between Ashhurst and Woodville. According to the company, the 82-96 MW development will be New Zealand’s most productive wind farm in terms of installed capacity, providing enough renewable electricity to power 32,300 approximately houses. It will also be the first wind farm in New Zealand to feed into the national grid, said Meridian.
