Farm Bill Renewables Amendment Passes in House

July 15, 2004 [] This week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to restore FY 2005 funding for the Section 9006 program of USDA grants to farmers installing energy efficiency or renewable energy equipment, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The organization added that through their lobbying efforts, the Section 9006 is substantially more solar-friendly as well. Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) offered a revenue-neutral amendment supported by SEIA, that shifted US$8 million in funding from a USDA facilities account to Section 9006. Representative Tom Latham (R-IA) rose to speak strongly in favor of restoring full funding for Section 9006. Rep Latham stated that it is “absolutely critical that we fund renewable energy as much as possible.” SEIA said the recent House efforts put the Section 9006 program in good shape for a solid Senate funding number.
