Coalition Supports Greenhouse Legislation

October 30, 2003 [] The Washington D.C.-based Sustainable Energy Coalition is supporting recent legislation which it says will have numerous benefits for both the renewable energy sector and the U.S. economy. The clean energy umbrella organization said that enactment of the McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act of 2003, or similar legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, should be viewed as a potential economic boon rather than a risk to economic growth and jobs as suggested by its opponents. Key to realizing the emissions-reductions goals of the legislation would be prudent and cost-effective investments in a cross-section of domestically-produced, distributed energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies which tend to be significantly more jobs-intensive than comparable investments in fossil fuels, said the organization.
