‘Clean Your Air’ Million Dollar Campaign Promotes Clean Power

A million dollar multi-media campaign has been launched in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets, designed to educate and persuade consumers to switch to clean electricity.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania 2002-02-22 [SolarAccess.com] The Clean Your Air (CYA) campaign, developed by the Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition (MAREC), “is the biggest ever seen anywhere in the nation to support renewable energy,” according to campaign spokesperson John Hanger. He says that “An unprecedented coalition of businesses, public interest organizations and governmental agencies has come together to educate the public that clean, renewable electricity can make a difference”. Clean Your Air is targeted at electricity consumers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, DC, states in which consumers have the ability to choose their electricity suppliers. Television advertising time has been purchased in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, with radio and print public service announcements scheduled throughout the region. All materials refer consumers to the Web site — www.CleanYourAir.org — for materials and assistance in switching to clean electricity. The Web site has specific sections for each electricity service area in the region. Funding and support for Clean Your Air comes from governmental agencies, foundations, public interest organizations and businesses throughout the targeted region. The largest financial supporters include the Sustainable Development Fund (Southeastern Pennsylvania), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy/Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and The Heinz Endowments.
