Celebrating Five Years of Fenner Wind Energy

To mark five years of operation at the Fenner Wind Farm, which has brought both energy and prosperity to Fenner, New York, State Senator David Valesky and New York State Assemblyman Bill Magee joined environmental organizations, farmers, renewable energy businesses, students and residents who gathered at the Fenner Renewable Energy Education (FREE) Center.

The five-year presence of the wind farm stimulated neighbors to come together as the Fenner Renewable Energy Education Center, Inc. (FREE Center). “As a neighbor of the wind farm, I have learned so much about wind power. We all felt we wanted to teach others about the benefits of clean energy, so we formed the FREE Center,” said Ann Jones, resident of Fenner and FREE Center director. “Today, we are not just celebrating an anniversary, but celebrating a beginning,” said Joan Livingston, FREE Center president. “The FREE Center’s goal is to create an exciting regional destination here in Fenner, to showcase our Fenner Wind Farm and teach others about renewable energy, like solar power, fuel cells, and biofuels.” “During these past five years the Fenner Wind Farm has produced enough to power supply approximately 9,000 average New York homes,” said Russ Cary, Fenner’s town supervisor.
