California PV Carpark Completed Ahead of Schedule

A 113 kilowatt solar carport system for the City of Riverside has been finished within 60 days of breaking ground.

ROCKLIN, California, US, 2001-11-09 [SolarAccess.com] The carport generates electricity and provides shade for 152 parking spaces at the Utilities Operations Center, with maximum unobstructed space for vehicles. Generating renewable electricity directly from sunlight will allow the PV system to reduce afternoon peak demand and reduce the city’s dependence on outside electricity sources. Schott Applied Power Corp supplied the 150 kW nameplate array of Siemens solar modules and a Xantrex grid-tied inverter. The system is rated to provide 113 kW AC output under sunny conditions, enough electricity for 100 California homes. In addition to the carport, Schott set up a 6 kW PV system for the Educational Media Foundation that provides primary power to a FM radio station located on the nearby San Gorgonio Peak.
