Business Skills Keep Renewable Energy Growing

[] Renewable energy is more than technology, it’s a business for entrepreneurs from manufacturers to site developers. The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative is sponsoring a statewide business presentation competition to help those entrepreneurs, five of whom will share a top prize of $30,000. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is organizing the competition through its Enterprise Forum Energy Special Interest Group. Contestants enrolled in the competition will learn how to create a compelling story for raising funds from government, angel, and venture capital investors. They will also receive training in presentation skills, and networking skills within the clean energy innovation sector. Three events will help the entrepreneurs to jumpstart their business ideas: a coaching session on presentation skills on February 15, the first round competition on March 21, and the final competition on April 27, 2005. Events are designed to help contestants clarify their strategic vision, vet their business plans, and boost their communication skills. Five winners will be selected in the final competitive round and each winner will share a portion of the $30,000 prize money.
