Ballard Shifts Fuel Cell Alliance

July 9, 2004 [] Production of vehicle fuel cell systems at Ballard’s Xcellsis facility will become the responsibility of DaimlerChrysler and Ford under an agreement that would allow Ballard to focus on fuel cell research, development and manufacturing. The partners have entered into a non-binding agreement to define the roles and responsibilities of their alliance, which was formed in 1998, and to establish requirements for program funding to ensure that the companies continue to build on their advances in fuel cell development. Ballard acquired Xcellsis from the car companies in 2001, and said they have made significant improvements to the fuel cell engine to increase the lifetime and improve the systems’ performance.
