Use of Solar Growing in Japan

July 30, 2002 [] The use of solar power is becoming increasingly popular in Japan, with a 30-fold increase in the number of users since fiscal 1994 when subsidies for solar power use began, according to a study released Monday. Members of the New Energy Foundation, affiliated with the Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry, said public interest in the environment has increased since the 1997 U.N. conference on curbing global warming in the western Japan city of Kyoto. At the same time, the cost of solar power generating equipment has fallen, they said.
