The organizers of the Texas Renewable Energy Roundup wanted 100 percent solar electricity to meet the power needs of close to 100 exhibit booths, workshops and speakers.
Austin, Texas – September 20, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] They turned to CSGServices, Inc., an Austin Renewable Energy firm, to come up with the solution. Through CSGServices, the Roundup was able to purchase Renewable Energy certificates (RECs) representing the electricity generated by photovoltaic systems located at ten different public schools across Texas. CSGServices, which built the systems for the schools, also served as the aggregator of the schools’ REC production and sponsored the successful request to have the RECs Green-E certified. The CSGServices REC transaction not only gives the Roundup the clean solar RECs they were looking for to offset the conference’s electricity use, but also represents several firsts for Texas and the nation, according to CSGServices: the first retail sale of solar-derived RECs in Texas; the first successful aggregation of RECs from small Renewable Energy systems in Texas; and the first Green-E certification of a 100 percent solar REC product sold anywhere in the U.S. “CSGServices is excited to have made this transaction a success for all the parties involved,” said Steve Wiese, Senior Consulting Manager for CSGServices. “We plan to build on this initial success and continue to work with the Renewable Energy community and others to deliver innovative strategies to bring renewable power to individuals, companies and events.”Texas RE Workshop to Purchase Green Tags
