SunPower Secures Silicon Supply Contract

October 10, 2003 [] Sunnyvalle, California-based SunPower Corporation has just signed a contract with Topsil for the supply of float zone silicon ingots and technology. The contract value corresponds with 25 percent of the past year’s turnover, or about USD 4.4 million, with full delivery scheduled in the coming 12 months. Topsil said float zone silicon enables solar cell manufacturers to achieve higher cell efficiencies and to make cells with a short life cycle cost relative to any other silicon materials. Float zone silicon addresses the growing interest from the photovoltaic community for high-performance solar cells, said the company.
