August 5, 2002 [] Sunoco will officially open their first solar thermal car wash and the largest in Canada, on August 7. The facility is designed to reduce the facility’s use of natural gas for water heating and thereby reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 30 metric tons annually. The car wash is located at the Sunoco station at 7750 McCowan Rd. in Markham, Ontario. The solar system was designed by Enermodal Engineering of Kitchener, Ontario and delivered and installed by ARISE Technologies Corporation also of Kitchener. The Government of Canada contributed to the project via Natural Resources Canada’s Renewable Energy Deployment Initiative.
