Studies Under Way for Solar Tower Sites in U.S.

South Melbourne, Victoria [] EnviroMission’s Solar Tower renewable energy concept has widened in the U.S. with a feasibility study under way in El Paso County, Texas. A weather station has been installed to gather meteorological data for a pre-feasibility study to evaluate the viability of Solar Tower operation in the district. Sites flagged for development in El Paso are based on regional solar radiation data from NASA and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Sites under consideration are in close proximity to the end of the Western grid in order to increase interest with local power authorities seeking large-scale renewable energy projects to meet the mandated renewable energy targets in Texas.
