Stadium gets Solar Panel Kick

If the home team isn’t winning at the new Stade de Suisse in Berne, there will at least be a tour of the stadium’s photovoltaic (PV) system to take a fan’s mind off the game. On the roof of the stadium, BKW FMB Energy is building an in-stadium 1.3 MW solar power plant and energy platform to power the building and surround complex.

Berne, Switzerland – July 6, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] The system is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2005, and the company has already started on the second half of the installation to complete the project. Once the system starts operation, BKW expects to sell the power generated under its 1to1 energy sun star plan. The plant’s total energy production will be equivalent to the average volume of power consumed by 300 households. Power plant operations will be evaluated and supported by the company in collaboration with the Mont-Soleil power plant company.
