SPS Energy Completes Solar LED Lighting Project

May 21, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] SPS Energy Solutions, recently installed a Light Emitting Diode (LED) solar lighting system for the main entrance sign at the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics (HIA) in Victoria BC. Their main entrance sign was in need of a lighting solution that would provide enough light to illuminate the sign at night, but also adhere to the stringent requirements of the Institute. The HIA needed a cost-effective lighting solution that would maintain the culture of the rural community, as well as, most importantly, not interfere with the highly sensitive radio telescopes which can easily collect diffused lighting from fluorescent bulbs. SPS Energy Solutions provided the HIA with an LED solar lighting system that consists of 400 W of solar LED lighting with a 400 amp/hour battery bank. Each year, the HIA, one of Western Canada’s leading Astrophysical Institutes, attracts thousands of daytime and evening guests who visit their research facilities in observational astronomy.
