Solar “Tree” to Provide Power and Shade

2002-03-06 [] A planned plaza in Geneva, London – designed to perform like a tree’s canopy – will provide citizens with shade and homes with electricity. The building, which will be 12 meters high, 19 meters wide and 27 meters long equaling 5000 square meters, will have a roof made of sheets of glass sandwiching PV cells, which allow the passage of light as well as capture solar energy. The system will be comprised of 160,000 10 by 10 centimeter solar cells and generate 310,000 kw/h a year, enough power for 190 homes.
