Solar tracking frames gain energy and cost conservation with dual axis

Sedona Energy Labs released its line of dual-axis solar tracking frames, called InteliTrack, and will be showcasing the new systems at Solar Power International 2010. CEO Mark Scanlon, explains the genesis of the system design: a mount that is based on the gyroscope — it’s counterbalanced on two axes.

While the majority of solar tracking systems are pole-mounted, which have attendant costs and disadvantages (wind loading, gearing, structure, etc.), this new dual-axis frame allows for spinning of both axes simultaneously, in perfect balance. The design is able to overcome a sub-optimal installation, i.e., one that is not perfectly south-aligned.

According to Scanlon, the systems are able to generate a 40% or greater increase in power produced compared to fixed solar frames.
