Solar Radios to Africa

LIRA, Africa – May 1, 2002 [] According to a report on UNICEF has donated 275 solar power radios and 36 megaphones to boost the mobilization of its programs in the Lira district of Africa. The Lira deputy Chief administration Officer, Ben Ogwete Otim, recently handed over the equipment to the parish development committees of the sub-counties of Aromo, Ogur, Olilim, Adwari, Orum, Okang and Omoro where UNCIEF programs are being implemented. The district UNICEF coordinator, Francis Okello, said UNICEF was committed to providing supplies for the implementation of programsn on children and women, immunization, water and sanitation and sensitization on HIV/AIDS. He said the donation also included six vacuum extractors for premature babies and 60 shallow well kits. Okello said the district also received 525 bicycles.
