Solar Panels Power Lights at Bus Stations in York, England

2002-03-06 [] Solar panels on the roofs of three York bus stands are powering lights for passengers and could become commonplace in the city. Transportation officials in the city were receiving complaints from passengers who were not able to see the timetables in the dark and there was concern for their safety. A button at the bus stop activates the light for about five minutes. The introduction of the solar powered lights ties in with the city hosting PlanetYork, a year-long project to make York the most energy efficient city in the United Kingdom.
