Solar-Fabrik Opens 60-MW PV Module Manufacturing Plant

Solar-Fabrik AG has opened a new production facility for manufacturing solar photovoltaic modules in Freiburg, Germany. The new plant increases the company’s total production capacity by 60 megawatts (MW) to a total of 130 MW.

Covering 15,000 m², the new production plant could eventually be expanded to produce at a capacity of up to 200 MW. Somewhere between 60 and 70 full-time jobs will be created as a result of the new plant, known as Plant III. The company said that it is planning another expansion on the same site for next year.

“Almost the entire production volume for the year was already sold at the beginning of 2009,” said Günter Weinberger, CEO of Solar-Fabrik AG. “With the new factory, we are able to meet our customers’ growing demand for quality modules. The high degree of automation increases the efficiency and the productivity, and enables the quality standards to be increased even further.”
