Solar Center Buys Corporate Solar RECs

The Solar Center’s recent purchase of a customer’s Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) for the 2006 reporting year reflects its business focus on renewable energy systems and energy efficiency products and services for homes and businesses.

“We chose to purchase the SRECs produced by our customers, rather than less expensive RECs from wind generation, as a way for us to do our part for the environment while encouraging homeowners and businesses in New Jersey to go solar,” said Dennis Wilson, president. The Solar Center purchase serves to avoid the release from conventional electricity generation of approximately 6,800 pounds of carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas, according to the company. “As the market for solar electric systems grows rapidly in New Jersey and the rest of the East Coast, The Solar Center intends to continue purchasing SRECs to offset the company’s electric usage,” Wilson added. The New Jersey Clean Energy Program provides rebates for the purchase of solar electric systems.
