February 3, 2011 — Russia-based Sun Innovations Company has developed a technology to print solar cells, improving solar panel quality and lowering costs, according to the company.
Quality and costs are controlled by precise dosing and coverage of each working layer via a printing methodology. Sun Innovations is testing new, more effective structures instead of traditional silicon.
The innovation will allow any flat surface, including flexible substrates, to be printed with a solar cell.
The technology, which has caught the interest of potential investors, will be presented at the end of 2011.
Sun Innovations Company closely cooperates with scientific institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, residing in the Novosibirsk Technopark. The company is supported both by RUSNANO and Russian and foreign investors. The new technology of the solar panel printing is a part of the national Technological Platform presented by Sun Innovations Group, supported by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
In 2007, Sun Innovations Company specialists developed a UV-LED technology that is inexpensive, economical, and effective, making UV-LED blocks for large-format UV-printers. In 2010, the company used this NEO UV-LED system to print on water. The company develops and manufactures digital large-format printers and nannoinks.
