Maxim Integrated Products Inc. is sampling the 78M6610+PSU/78M6610+LMU single-phase energy-measurement processors. These processors are an energy-measurement subsystem in a single chip. They provide simple, utility-grade sensing and diagnostics for existing designs without the traditional cost of a utility meter system-on-chip. Both devices contain unique firmware to meet end application requirements. The 78M6610+PSU is designed for real-time monitoring of data centers, servers and telecom and data equipment. The 78M6610+LMU is a more general-purpose solution for applications such as white-good appliances, smart plugs, electric vehicle chargers and solar inverters. The 78M6610 processors enable energy-measurement functionality while reducing manufacturing costs and time to market. Energy-measurement solutions traditionally required an additional microcontroller, which adds significant design cost and months of development. The 78M6610 allows users to add a complete energy meter to an existing design without significant cost or redesign.

Transformers
The new Cooper Power Systems Peak transformers are designed to provide additional capability for managing increased loads and temporary overload capacity without accelerating loss of insulation system life when compared with mineral oil-filled transformer alternatives. The expanded line of groundbreaking technology is available in 75 C Average Winding Rise (AWR) and 65/75 C AWR in single-phase pole- and pad-mounted, three-phase pad-mounted and substation configurations. Cooper Power Systems has two options available for Peak transformers. Both options use an advanced high-temperature insulation system—composed of thermally upgraded kraft paper, soybean oil-based Envirotemp FR3 dielectric fluid, and an optimized core and coil design. Cooper Power Systems is the first transformer designer and manufacturer to offer 75 C AWR to new IEEE standards. The newly published IEEE Std C57.154 -2012, “Standard for the Design, Testing and Application of Liquid-Immersed Distribution, Power and Regulating Transformers Using High-Temperature Insulation Systems and Operating at Elevated Temperatures,” reflects new technology, allowing higher performance. The acceptance of this new standard allows customers to deploy 75 C AWR Peak transformers with confidence.
