Madrid, Spain [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] Spanish renewable energy company, Siliken has entered into an agreement with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures to build a 9.8 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power plant in the Italian city of Fiumicino. When completed, it will be one of the largest PV installations in the region.
Siliken will deliver this installation as a turnkey project. Building will start in April and the facility will be completed in September/October 2010. Siliken will be responsible for the maintenance of the plant as of the start of operations. The installation will include 40,000 Siliken SLK60P6L modules of 225 and 230 watts.
The plant is expected to inject 14 gigawatt-hours (GWh) into the grid and a Siliken piled structure will be used. It will be equipped with Siliken’s proprietary monitoring system for continuous monitoring.
This is part of a wider trend in the solar industry. Most, if not all of the world’s major solar suppliers and integrators have a presence in Italy to take advantage of the country’s abundant solar resources and feed-in tariff setup. Just this week, Evergreen Solar and 9REN both unveiled projects in Italy as have Statkrat and SunEdison, which announced that it will build 72 MW of projects in the country.
