SEC Signs Deal for Hitachi Solar Technology

Solar manufacturing company Space Energy Corp. (SEC) has signed a contract with Hitachi Ltd., for the sale of Hitachi’s solar cell and module manufacturing facility along with the transfer of technology and knowledge.

Under the terms of the contract, Hitachi will sell its bi-facial photovoltaic assets and provide related technology support to allow SEC to diversify its business into the cell and module manufacturing fields. SEC is planning to start production in September 2008 at an initial level of 3.5 megawatts and is expected to increase to commercial scale soon after that.

In a statement SEC said that only a handful companies have been manufacturing bi-facial solar products in the world up till now, but the market is expected to grow with the expansion in its application variety. “Many inquiries have been received on the possibility of installing bi-facial solar products in the desert and snowy regions,” the statement said.
