Rwanda: 200 Million Francs Invested in Solar Energy

Kigali, Rwanda [The New Times] A local company, Ihangire Sun Energy, April 17, officially launched a Frw. 200m [in Rwandan Francs; ~USD$364,000] investment in solar energy. Speaking to the Business Times, the ISE Production Manager Olivier Bunani said that the idea to start the project came up in August 2005. “…We realised that the country was facing a serious power shortage and we decided on it,” Bunani said. He said the company had so far undertaken the provision of services to about sixteen families. … Bunani also decried the poverty, saying it limits the people’s purchasing power and called upon Rwandans to make use of the existing micro-finance institutions for quick loans.
