PV Array Grants in Northern Ireland

September 7, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has expanded its solar photovoltaics (PV) incentives program with Plug in the Sun, which offers a reduced system price to selected public sector organizations and small businesses. The Energy Saving Trust supplied grants to fund the program, and 16 organizations and individuals will benefit from the latest addition to the utility’s “Smart Program”. NIE is encouraging schools, not for profit and public sector organizations, businesses and community groups to take advantage of this offer. BP Solar will provide 3 kW PV arrays for people who qualify for the program. The arrays are expected to generate 2,400 kWh of electricity annually, enough to power a standard household. Approved grants can cover up to 75 percent of the system cost. Eligible properties must be within 40 miles of Belfast, and installations must be completed by October of 2004.
