July 28, 2003[SolarAccess.com]The application deadline time is winding down for qualified photovoltaic (PV) energy system installers to become NABCEP Certified. Application time is limited, deadline for the first round test is July 31st. Right now the only way that installers can differentiate themselves from their less qualified competitors is word-of-mouth, say NABCEP administrators. The NABCEP certification would offer a new venue for qualification. Being a state-licensed electrician certainly offers credibility but does not really attest to PV specific skills, but NABCEP offers an opportunity to virtually anyone with documented skills and experience in PV, trade qualified or not, to sit for the Certification exam, said the organization’s Chairperson Ezra Auerbach. PV installers who meet the pre-requisites should apply to sit for the first round of NABCEP exams in October ’03. This will allow them to turn their years of experience and expertise to an identifiable competitive advantage, said Auerbach. It will also help those “early adopters” to shape the future of NABCEP as they become stakeholders with board representation. The application deadline is this Thursday.
