Million Solar Roofs Campaign, SB 1, Update

[] The state Assembly’s eleven member Utilities & Commerce committee will vote today on the Million Solar Roofs bill, SB 1 (Murray/Campbell/Levine) during a regularly scheduled hearing beginning at 2:00 in Room 437 of the state capitol. Last week, more than fifty solar power supporters, including leaders of religious and environmental organizations, packed the room at a special informational hearing held by the same committee on this bill. During the 2004 legislative year, a similar solar power bill failed to pass Assembly U&C committee. This year, solar supporters are hoping a majority of committee members will join the Committee Chair Lloyd Levine in voting for The Million Solar Roofs bill, SB 1. Last week, two labor major California labor unions become official supporters of SB 1: The California Conference of Carpenters and the California State Council of Laborers. These unions joined AFSME in supporting SB 1. The City of Santa Monica also voted to officially endorse SB 1.
