[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Mechtild Rothe, member of the SPE group in the European Parliament and president of European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources (EUFORES), will receive the European Solar Award in “Special personal engagement” for renewable energy. The award, which dignifies outstanding projects and initiatives for promotion and use of renewable energies, is assigned by the European Association for Renewable Energy EUROSOLAR in cooperation with the KfW Bank. Ms. Rothe will receive the award at the ceremony in Berlin this week. Ms. Rothe, who promotes renewable energies at EU policy level, recently initiated a report on renewable heating and cooling, a sector that has not yet been covered by European legislation, although it consumes more than 40 percent of all primary energy used in the EU. She is currently Rapporteur of the Directive on energy services and end use efficiency. She formerly served as Rapporteur of the Green and White Book on renewable energy and of the Directive on the promotion of electricity produced from renewable energy sources.
