Manchester UK Solar Tower Goes Online

Carmarthenshire, Wales [Green Building Press] Despite its reputation for grey skies and endless rain, Manchester is now home to one of the largest solar power stations in the UK. The Co-operative Insurance Solar Tower is complete and generating enough energy to make nine million cups of tea every year. The service tower of the landmark city-centre building has been fitted with 7,000 photovoltaic panels, creating 180,000 units of renewable electricity each year, the equivalent of the total electricity usage of 61 average 3-bedroom houses.
