MAG is expanding its solar panel manufacturing systems business with the establishment of US operations to build and distribute crystalline silicon module production lines with capacities up to 130 MWp. The company also won a systems order in Poland.
May 25, 2011 — MAG is expanding its solar panel manufacturing systems business with the establishment of US operations to build and distribute crystalline silicon (c-Si) PV module production lines with capacities up to 130 MWp.
“Solar installations in 2010 were up 100% over the previous year, despite the state of the overall economy,” said Joe Jones, US GM for MAG’s renewable energy business unit. MAG has supplied more than 30 automated production lines to solar panel manufacturers globally in the last 5 years. Jones said the US base was neccessary due to expanding demand in the market.
MAG provides solar manufacturing equipment: semiautomatic modules to complete turnkey factories for panels. The lines are robot-free with modular configurations and cycle times as low as 40 seconds. Load/unload solutions, conveyance, storage and pack-out, as well as non-MAG equipment and turnkey controls are built-in. Trimming, taping, sealing, framing and junction box assembly can be added for back-end assembly. Testing, interconnection soldering, and other custom process steps are also available.
In the European market, MAG will build a turnkey 30MW solar module line for Solar-Energy sp. z o.o., Poland at MAG’s Schaffhausen, Switzerland, facility. The turnkey c-Si lines are available fully automated or with manual assist for lower output operations.
The new 30-megawatt manufacturing line for Solar-Energy Sp. z o.o., Poland, will include all production steps for manufacturing photovoltaic modules, including glass loading, connecting cells and lamination, assembly of frames and junction box, testing and sorting. The manufacturing line will be located at the Solar-Energy facilities in Bozepole Wielkie, Poland, about 40 miles from Gdansk, and should be in operation as early as summer 2011. The company will market the PV modules throughout Europe.
