August 23, 2011 — The Specialty Films Division of Madico Inc., which makes photovoltaic backsheets, expanded its internal Performance Analysis Lab at Madico’s headquarters in Woburn, MA. The lab is part of Madico’s Research and Development division.

The lab will be used to conduct viability tests on weatherability, electrical insulation, mechanical properties, and optical and surface characteristics of photovoltaics materials. Madico added a Constant Climate Chamber for accelerated aging tests; Permatran-W to measure moisture transmission rates; and a Vacuum Laminator that can fabricate small modules. The company will validate Protekt’s performance beyond current standards and tune backsheet technologies to meet customer requirements.

Madico expects faster product development thanks to bringing testing in-house. Madico designs photovoltaics backsheet materials to last 25+ years in-field, said Dave Avison, director of the Core Technology Group. The company will continue to add to the lab as appropriate in the future.

Madico Inc. develops innovative materials, including for emerging safety and energy markets. Learn more at http://www.madico.com
