IPSol Energy opening UK’s first solar PV “Center of Excellence”

February 14, 2011 – IPSol Energy is establishing a commercial PV center of excellence in the English Midlands to provide independent strategy advice and validation of solar PV modules, what it says will be the UK’s and ostensibly world-first first such site. The company says it has secured about £500K in private backing (helped by nonprofit group Connect Midlands) to create the 8000ft2 site in Nottingham’s Easter Park.

The UK is arguably the fastest growing PV market in Europe, if not the world — its 2010 growth was likely well over 1000%, thanks to feed-in tariffs introduced last spring. hus the nation “is in dire need” of such services, says IPSol Energy CEO Peter Khoury, in a statement. The company itself plans to double in size each of the next five years, and sought out Connect Midlands to reach regional investors to support capital expenditures and working capital.

IPSol is led by execs and engineers with backgrounds at Loughborough U.’s Centre For Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST). It plans to eventually employ up to 20 high-tech personnel in the PV center of excellence, delivering “cradle-to-grave” services including strategic consulting, testing and certification of PV components and modules.
