Hospital in SA Installs Solar Heating System

Cape Town and Pretoria, South Africa [] SunTank, a solar heating company in South Africa, will install a commercial-scale solar energy system for its Western Cape (WC) Department of Health’s Worcester Provincial Hospital. It is designed to achieve a 35% reduction in the energy consumption of the hospital, thereby reducing its peak electricity load. Commissioning is expected by May. With new industrial size orders coming in at an average rate of three per month, the company’s main challenge is the recruitment and training of installation technicians and project leaders. Robert Kraaikamp, the General Manager for SunTank WC says: “Beside the obvious benefits to the WC energy situation, implementing the technology will also create many new jobs. We encourage young people from the province to train and qualify for careers in the industry.”
