Hoku Scientific Awards Contract for Polysilicon Plant in Idaho

Hoku Materials, a business unit of Hoku Scientific, Inc., that is planning to manufacture and sell polysilicon for solar applications, has awarded a contract to CH2M HILL Lockwood Greene to provide engineering and related services for Hoku Materials’ polysilicon production plant to be built in Idaho.

This first phase of the project, plus the balance of the engineering, procurement and construction management services (EPCM) project, will include completion of the detailed engineering design, as well as the construction and start-up of the plant. “As we take definitive steps towards executing on our polysilicon strategy, we are pleased to add CH2M HILL Lockwood Greene to our team,” noted Dustin Shindo, chairman of the board of directors, president and CEO of Hoku Scientific. “They have performed projects for many of the leading polysilicon manufacturers worldwide over the past several years, and we are confident that their experience in the polysilicon industry will help us to complete this project in time to meet our company’s objectives.” While the total value of the contract was not disclosed, Hoku Scientific is evaluating three sites near the Snake River in southern Idaho, and plans to make a final decision within the next several weeks.
