‘TXU Energy Extravaganza’ to debut at State Fair of Texas

DALLAS, Sept. 17, 2002 — TXU will unveil its redesigned “TXU Energy Extravaganza” at the State Fair of Texas on Friday, Sept. 27.

The TXU Energy Extravaganza is a high-energy, special effects show combining video, colorful lasers, water, fire and music. This is TXU’s fourth year as the corporate sponsor of the free, family-friendly show at the Fairground’s Esplanade fountain.

The focal point of the new TXU Energy Extravaganza is a 40-foot-tall “Power Pyramid” flanked on each side by two smaller pyramids. The Power Pyramid will “energy warp” people through several decades of music, images and special events.

“TXU has a long history of providing Texans with the energy they’ve needed to build this great state,” said Erle Nye, TXU chairman and chief executive. “The TXU Energy Extravaganza is an opportunity for TXU to give back to our customers that we’ve been privileged to serve for more than 100 years.”

“We’ve always counted on TXU to help us provide wholesome, exciting entertainment for the Fair’s annual 3 million visitors,” said Errol W. McKoy, State Fair of Texas president. “The new TXU Energy Extravaganza will take fairgoers on a wild, musical ride through history.”

The TXU Energy Extravaganza powers-up with an out-of-this-world “Close Encounters” communique between the pyramids and the surrounding buildings. Then the energy warp kicks-in with 3-D lasers, sound effects and illusions. Pyrotechnics and flame cannons usher in the era of Swing, Salsa and New Age/Techno music. The Power Pyramid then plays homage to itself with a wild version of “Walk Like an Egyptian.”

Immediately afterwards, the pyramid rocks the Esplanade with Texas’ favorite ZZ Top hit, “LaGrange,” followed-up by the music of Garth Brooks and LeAnn Rimes. Before the pyramids power down, they launch into a spectacular, special effects finale honoring the State Fair of Texas.

“This year’s TXU Energy Extravaganza will be the most ‘powerful’ show at the Fair,” said Nye. “I’m proud TXU and the State Fair of Texas have forged such a strong corporate partnership, and that we are able to entertain so many Texans.”

The TXU Energy Extravaganza is produced by Stone Mountain Productions of Stone Mountain, GA. The world-renowned special effects company has created spectacular shows at entertainment venues throughout the country.

The 18-minute-long TXU Energy Extravaganza is free to the public every night during the State Fair of Texas. The show starts at 8 p.m. following the “Starlight” Parade.
